IDIBGI's research in mental health is presented at the Girona delegation of the Official College of Psychologists of Catalonia.

10 October 2023

The Girona delegation of the Official College of Psychologists of Catalonia, organized a conference last Thursday, October 5, to bring to the members the research activity of the Girona Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBGI). An activity that served to continue collaborating with the COPC Girona and promote research in mental health.

Dr. Eva Frigola, consolidated researcher of the Mental Health and Addictions research group at IDIBGI and clinical psychologist at the Mental Health and Addictions Network of the Institute of Health Care (IAS), was the speaker at the conference. Among other aspects, it is worth mentioning the European project OPADE (Optimizing and predicting the efficacy of antidepressants for patients with severe depression). OPADE is an innovative initiative that seeks to optimize and predict the efficacy of antidepressants in people diagnosed with major depression. It uses a multidisciplinary approach that combines multi-omics analysis, including genomics, proteomics and metabolomics, with the help of artificial intelligence to improve mental health care.

During the presentation, Dr. Frigola shared details about the European OPADE project and how this research can improve the approach to depression. Through the use of advanced biological data and artificial intelligence tools, the aim is to better understand how different biological profiles of patients can influence the response to antidepressants. This will enable healthcare professionals to personalize treatments more effectively, maximizing efficacy and minimizing side effects.

The session provided an opportunity to learn first-hand about the work of the research group, how important mental health research is, and to explore how science and technology come together to address mental health problems in innovative ways. The active participation of the collegians demonstrated the community's commitment to advancing the field of psychology, research, and mental health.
