Respiratory

IDIBGI's Respiratory Research Group is composed of several researchers from the Pneumology Department. It focuses on research into bronchiectasis, diffuse interstitial diseases, COVID19, sleep disorders, lung cancer and thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension.

The research is complemented by intense clinical activity, which has led the group to be invited to conferences in international congresses, to carrying out draft reviews and to publishing in high impact journals, as well as to being experts in the field of respiratory diseases, both nationally and internationally.

Bronchiectasis: Etiology, diagnosis, and treatment
Sleep disorders: Diagnosis in primary medicine and vascular repercussions of the disease
Pulmonary hypertension
Early diagnosis of lung cancer
Occupational respiratory pathologies
Diffuse interstitial lung disease

Strategic objectives

Bronchiectasis: research into different aetiologies, including cystic fibrosis, bronchial infection and treatment.
Obstructive Sleep Apnoea Syndrome (OSAS): early diagnosis, diagnosis in the primary care setting, vascular complications; endothelial and metabolic dysfunction and identification of plasma and cellular biomarkers.
Diffuse interstitial and occupational diseases: silicosis in marble workers; asbestos-associated pathology.
Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension (CTEPH): Research on new therapeutic targets, causes of the disease, vascular dysfunctions and in vitro 3D and in vivo models of endothelial pathology of CTEPH.
Lung Cancer: Detection of ctDNA as a diagnostic tool in lung cancer.
COVID-19: Advanced respiratory therapies in COVID-19 patients. Respiratory and vascular pulmonary sequelae in patients who have survived COVID-19.
