The University Hospital of Girona Dr. Josep Trueta, IDIBGI (Girona Biomedical Research Institute Dr. Josep Trueta), and Pallapupas are launching a pioneering collaboration to deliver emotional well-being sessions for the pediatric healthcare team. These training sessions will run over ten weeks, from February 5 to April 12, with each session lasting 30 minutes. The workshops provide healthcare professionals with practical and effective tools linked to playfulness and humor to manage stress and enhance emotional well-being.
IDIBGI and the Pediatrics Department at Trueta will study whether these sessions improve the quality of care for children, with the support of Dipsalut, the public health agency of the Diputació de Girona.
Beyond improving individual well-being, the initiative also fosters teamwork, cohesion, and internal communication through Pallapupas' unique methodology. This organization has been recognized for its work in Catalan hospitals for over 25 years. The training combines emotional management techniques, active listening exercises, and empathetic communication, alongside playful and humorous activities to ease tension.
The primary goal is for healthcare professionals to start their shifts with less stress and a more positive mindset, ultimately leading to better patient care and a more pleasant work environment. The training is open to all healthcare staff, including doctors, nurses, psychologists, social workers, and administrative personnel. Sessions incorporate adapted theatrical techniques to create an engaging and experiential learning process.
By implementing this training at Trueta, Pallapupas reinforces the importance of emotional care and humor in healthcare. A study by IDIBGI and the hospital's Pediatrics Department, supported by Dipsalut, will assess the impact of these sessions. The study will use validated scales measuring emotional well-being, perceived stress, compassion, and related factors. Participants will complete assessments before the training, immediately after, and at three- and six-month follow-ups.
With this collaboration, Hospital Trueta, IDIBGI, Pallapupas, and the Diputació de Girona emphasize that fostering healthcare professionals’ emotional well-being is crucial for high-quality patient care, proving that smiles can be powerful allies in healthcare.
