IDIBGI signs a collaboration agreement with the hospitals of Figueres, Palamós, Calella and Blanes to promote research and innovation

20 April 2023
  • The Girona Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBGI) has established agreements with the Empordà Health Foundation (FSE), the Baix Empordà Integrated Health Services (SSIBE) and the Maresme and La Selva Health Corporation (CSMS).
  • The aim is to promote biomedical research and innovation in health institutions in the Girona area, key to the continuous improvement of clinical practice.

The Girona Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBGI) has established collaboration agreements with three health institutions in the province of Girona: the Fundació Salut Empordà (FSE), Serveis de Salut Integrats Baix Empordà (SSIBE) and the Corporació de Salut del Maresme i la Selva (CSMS). These are the institutions that manage the hospitals of Figueres, Palamós, Calella and Blanes, as well as primary, specialised and socio-health care in the areas they cover.

The aim of the collaboration, in accordance with the founding statutes of IDIBGI, is to promote biomedical research and innovation among health professionals throughout the Girona area. Thus, this agreement will make it possible to promote research initiatives and projects between these health institutions and IDIBGI, strengthening collaboration between them, and will also serve as a vehicle for joint training and teaching activities.

One of the first actions will be the 2nd Girona Conference on Research by Residents and Young Talents, promoted by the IDIBGI and the teaching units of the main hospitals in Girona and Primary Care, and sponsored by the Mutual Médica Foundation and the Girona Medical and Health Sciences Association. The conference will be held on Tuesday 25 April at the Girona Conference Centre with the aim of promoting research among future healthcare professionals in the Girona area, residents and healthcare professionals who have just completed this period.

The IDIBGI is a research institute that forms part of the CERCA system of the Generalitat de Catalunya, dedicated to translational, clinical and epidemiological research aimed at improving people's health and care. The Institute is made up of 22 research groups distributed in six health areas: cardiovascular and respiratory, oncohematology, metabolism and inflammation, neurosciences, mental health and medical imaging. Currently, in addition to having its own research staff, the IDIBGI manages the research carried out by professionals from the Dr. Josep Trueta and Santa Caterina Hospitals, the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) in Girona, and the Institute of Diagnostic Imaging (IDI).
