The IDIBGI presents second educational story with Pilarin Bayés and Josep Maria Fonalleras in Girona

11 November 2024
  • The event gathered over 120 people at the Fira de Mostres in Girona on October 30.
  • The story “I em parles d’unes coses on m’ha caigut l’oblit” (Llibres del Segle) was made possible by the Joan Oró Grant 2024 from the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRI)

The Dr. Josep Trueta Biomedical Research Institute of Girona (IDIBGI) presented its second children’s educational story about health and research on Wednesday, October 30, at the Fira de Mostres in Girona. The story, titled “I em parles d’unes coses on m’ha caigut oblit”  (Llibres del Segle), was created with illustrations by artist Pilarin Bayés and writing by author Josep Maria Fonalleras, and centers around the theme of neurodegeneration. This initiative was made possible thanks to the Joan Oró Grant 2024 from the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRI).

The event was attended by around 120 people, including the authors and IDIBGI researchers who contributed to the development of the story: Dr. Lluís Ramió-Torrentà, head of the Neurodegeneration and Neuroinflammation Research Group and medical director of the Hospital of Olot, and Dr. Jordi Gich, senior researcher in the same group and neuropsychologist at Trueta and Santa Caterina hospitals. Dr. Jordi Mas, director of the FCRI, also participated, emphasizing the importance of communicating research to children in an accessible way. Additionally, Marta Costa-Pau, director of the publishing house Llibres del Segle, spoke at the event.

Besides this event, IDIBGI will present the story at:

  • Saturday, November 16, 12:00 p.m. – L’Altell Bookstore in Banyoles, with Josep Maria Fonalleras and Dr. Lluís Ramió-Torrentà
  • Saturday, November 16, 5:00 p.m. – Vitel·la Bookstore in L’Escala, with Pilarin Bayés, Josep Maria Fonalleras, and Cristina Maragall, President of the Pasqual Maragall Foundation
  • Friday, December 6, 5:00 p.m. – Fira de l’Avet in Espinelves, with Pilarin Bayés and Josep Maria Fonalleras
  • Saturday, December 14, 12:00 p.m. – Llibreria 22 in Girona, with Josep Maria Fonalleras

The story follows the friendship that forms between Clàudia and Pol, two children who live in a coastal town. Together, they observe the daily lives of their grandparents and how cognitive decline affects them. It’s a story filled with tenderness, where verses from the poem “La poma escollida” and other passages from "Els fruits saborosos" by Josep Carner cleverly and uniquely connect past and present, accompanied by Pilarin’s heartwarming illustrations.

We at IDIBGI would like to thank everyone who participated in this initiative and those who attended the story’s presentation, making it possible for research to reach young audiences.
