IDIBGI takes part in the "Ciència en Equip" fair

7 April 2025

On April 5, IDIBGI participated in "Ciència en Equip" Fair, organized by the Pedagogical Resources Center of Gironès (CRP Gironès). During this event, the research groups in Metabolic and Maternal-fetal, Pediatric Endocrinology, and Neurodevelopmental Disorders, together with the IDIBGI Communication team, had the opportunity to share the institute's research with attendees, bringing science closer to the public in a fun and engaging way.

The Neurodevelopmental Disorders Research Group (IDIBGI – IAS), led by Dr. Susanna Esteba, organized several workshops focused on the brain and how it works. Among other things, participants got to experience a mind-control game and take part in an immersive activity to understand what it’s like to live with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

At the same time, the Metabolic and Maternal-fetal and Pediatric Endocrinology research groups held two workshops. In the first, attendees could extract DNA from a strawberry, and in the second, they explained the concept of methylation using a metaphor: a music score and its notes. They also presented research on Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (IDIBGI – Hospital Trueta), which was supported by La Marató de 3Cat in 2023.

As part of the fair, the game "Mite o Ciència" was introduced, a science communication initiative created by IDIBGI with support from the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT). This online game links popular movies to research conducted in IDIBGI’s labs, inviting users to discover whether the concepts presented are based on scientific evidence or myths. A fun and innovative way to spark interest in science!

The event welcomed hundreds of participants, especially families and secondary school students, who enjoyed a wide variety of educational and interactive activities.

This edition of "Ciència en Equip" has been a great opportunity to connect biomedical research with society and promote scientific interest among people of all ages. From IDIBGI, we thank CRP Gironès and everyone involved in organizing the event for making this space of exchange between science and the community possible.
