The sixth edition of the solidarity concert ‘CantEM for Multiple Sclerosis’ once again brings together voices for an essential cause: to give visibility to multiple sclerosis and raise funds for the research being carried out at the Girona Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBGI). This event will take place on Thursday 10 October at 20:00 h, in the Aula Magna of the University of Girona, a space provided once again for the occasion.
This year, the concert will feature four choirs from the region, who will join their voices for a night of music and solidarity: Girona’s Coro Singlot choir, Girona’s Preludi choir and Les Vox from la Bisbal d'Empordà, and, for the first time, a children's choir, the kids’ choir Preludi of Girona, will be taking part.
The funds raised from the concert will go to the IDIBGI's Neurodegeneration and Neuroinflammation research group, linked to the Girona Territorial Neuroimmunology and Multiple Sclerosis Unit of the Josep Trueta Hospital in Girona and Santa Caterina Hospital in Salt, headed by Dr. Gary Álvarez. This group is a benchmark in research into multiple sclerosis, a chronic neurological disease that affects the central nervous system and for which there is still no cure.
Research is essential to discover new therapeutic avenues to alleviate symptoms and provide hope for those affected and their families. ‘Our goal is to continue advancing our knowledge of multiple sclerosis to find new solutions that improve the quality of life of patients,’ says Dr. Lluís Ramió Torrentà, leader of the research group.
For his part, Dr. Álvarez remarks: ‘Initiatives such as the CantEM generate a link with society which, in turn, facilitates its awareness of the non-medical activity of the Multiple Sclerosis units. Groups such as ours are firmly committed, not only to medical care, but also to researching solutions to the problems derived from the disease through research’.
The initiative to organise a concert of this calibre is in the hands of Dr. Ramió and Begonya Matesanz, a person with multiple sclerosis, who stresses that it is ‘a concert of solidarity, where all together, the public, choirs and doctors, sing LluitEM – let’s fight - with the same objective: research into Multiple Sclerosis’. Tickets can be purchased in advance through the website or on the day of the concert at the box office for 10 euros. For those who cannot attend but would like to contribute, there is the possibility of purchasing a ‘Fila 0’ ticket.
