Internal Medicine is the main medical discipline in the care of adults with one or several complex acute or chronic diseases. The main areas of action are the complex chronic patient, acute patient, medical and surgical unit support, management of multi-organ diseases and the diagnosis and management of poorly defined syndromic pictures and minority diseases. Our Internal Medicine Service manages 1300 annual discharges, 1100 hospital interconsultations and 800 first visits to outpatient clinics. The main DRGs are infectious diseases, cardiac insufficiency and venous thromboembolic disease, as well as systemic-autoimmune diseases due to their idiosyncrasy.

From this environment arises the type of research in which the group feels involved, basically clinical-epidemiological to better understand the risk factors, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of the pathologies that we assist.

Currently the staff is made up of 14 doctors with a post and 7 resident doctors. Most of them are interested and involved in research.

Main lines of research
  • Venous thromboembolic disease
  • Infectious Diseases: COVID-19, AIDS, MTS, Tuberculosis, ARI/Pneumonia.

  • Autoimmune-systemic diseases.
Strategic objectives
  • Clinical-epidemiological research
  • Participation in National Registries
  • Participation in Phase II-III Clinical Trials
