The College of Psychology of Catalonia in the demarcation of Girona collaborates with the Neurodevelopmental Disorders group

13 January 2025
  • The donation will contribute to the group's activity, which researches the development of therapies that reduce social anxiety in people with autism and intellectual disabilities.

The Research Group on Neurodevelopmental Disorders of the Biomedical Research Institute of Girona (IDIBGI), linked to the Health Care Institute, has received the support of the Official College of Psychology (COPC) of Girona. This support was made official in a meeting with the head of the research group, Dra. Susanna Esteba, and the head of Patronage of the IDIBGI, Ferran Pedró, at the COPC headquarters in Girona.

The donation will contribute to the group's activity, which researches the application of therapies to reduce levels of social anxiety in people with autism and intellectual disabilities.

People with intellectual disabilities are at high risk of behavioral or mental disorders such as borderline intellectual functioning, autism spectrum disorders and genetic syndromes related to developmental delay. The Neurodevelopmental Disorders research group seeks to improve the understanding of the relationship between behavior and the brain and, on the other hand, to improve interventions in the field of health. Research results are transferred to clinical practice.

From the IDIBGI we want to thank this gesture of commitment and the importance of strengthening the link between research and the clinical community. This type of alliance is essential to contribute to improving the quality of life of those who live with neurodevelopmental disorders and other conditions related to mental health and their relatives.
