Girona Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBGI) is a research centre from the CERCA network of the Generalitat de Catalunya, which aims to promote, develop, manage, transfer and disseminate biomedical research, scientific and technological knowledge, teaching and training in the field of life sciences and health, mainly in the province of Girona .

IDIBGI was formally established in 2005,  but has its origins in the Fundació Privada Dr. Josep Trueta (1995). It has been a public organisation since 2008, when the Catalan Government joined IDIBGI as a member of its governing bodies

IDIBGI is structured with own research groups and research staff in the field of health and biomedical research and researchers from the Dr. Josep Trueta University Hospital (HUJT), / Catalan Health Institute (ICS), The Healthcare Institute (IAS) , the Institute for Diagnostic Imaging (IDI), the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), the Blood and Tissue Bank (BST), the University of Girona (UdG), the University School of Health and Sport (EUSES) and the Primary Care Research Institute(IDIAP) Jordi Gol in Girona.

IDIBGI’s facilities in the Parc Hospitalari Martí and Julià of Salt host part of the laboratories and research staff who, together with the other researchers of the associated institutions, form multidisciplinary teams with different expertise focused on finding synergies and solutions to the health challenges in our region through translational research.
