It is a multi-role collection led by the IDIBGI Biobank (Coordinating node):
Fatbank is a technological platform to support research promoted by CIBERobn, which hosts the first biological bank specialized in fatty tissue. This bank was created in order to obtain a collection of fatty tissue that is useful to investigate its relationship and incidence in the progress of several diseases.
Fatty tissue is a very abundant organ in the human body. It is located in several anatomical areas and its function varies depending on where it is. Apart from being a tissue that serves as an energy store, it produces a series of substances that are released into the blood stream and can influence the subsequent onset of high prevalence diseases such as obesity, diabetes mellitus and arteriosclerosis, among others. In order to better understand how these substances act, we must study the cells that are part of this fatty tissue.
