Page 6 of 7 Forecast for the future Future policy includes giving added impulse to all the lines of research previously specified, among which are those considered to be essential: those concerned with the study of the genetic aspects of cardiovascular disease; epidemiological studies of myocardial infarction and the risk factors, together with Southern European Mediterranean Risk equations and the study of hospital methods in dealing with coronary disease. In the short term we are centred in publishing the evolution of cardiovascular risk factors, comparing their prevalence as well as the degree of diagnosis and control In three time periods: 1995, 2000 and 2005. In addition there is the intended publication of the validation of the REGICOR equation as well as an analysis of the characteristics of the valuation of risk in the population (VERIFICA Study). Other challenges to be dealt with in 2006 are the analysis of the prevalence of peripheral arteriopathy and the study of the prevalence and characteristics of silent infarctions. With these aims in mind it is planned to continue with the register indefinitely, as in the case with such similar projects as that of Framingham ( Massachusetts, USA), whose study is the model for the cardiovascular epidemiology studies, and with whom we have very productive scientific and human relations. At the same time we would like if possible to strengthen the follow-up of the recruiting groups (including the group that will generate the HERMES study), since it would allow us to carry out studies on the evolution of risk factors and predictive equations, and relate genetic expressions to the presence of cardiovascular disease. It is also planned to continue participating in national studies as relevant as that of the monitoring of ischaemia in the acute coronary syndrome with specific systems of continuous vectocardiography (MIDA) (TRISTAN study) and surface mapping with 80 electrodes (PRIME ECG). Participation in international multicentred studies AFTER, COBALT,TIMI,11B, IN -TIME II, ASSENT II and III, TIMI 23, RAPSODY, HERO-2 and GUSTO V.
